About Reflexology

What is Reflexology ?

Reflexology is a practice of ancient origins but important modern significance.

Reflexologists believe that the body is divided longitudinally into ten equal segments which form an energy loop, either spiritual or physical, starting and then returning to the feet or hands.
It has been found that by stimulating the origins of these loops in the feet or hands it is possible to influence any of the organs or systems found within that particular loop.

Reflexology is a holistic, non-diagnostic treatment the guiding principles of which are:

Relaxation - a body both functions and recuperates better when physically and mentally relaxed.

Holistic approach - to treat the body and mind as a whole and therefore recognise that that no part of the body works in isolation.

• Homeostasis - this is the body's natural desire to return to it's optimum working level, and be aiding and facilitating this an individual's health can be improved.

By working within these principles the Reflexologist can improve the general health and well-being of an individual and thus be of help in specific conditions or simply for general health.

Richard Woffenden MBRA study and qualified with the Bayly School of Reflexology, an institution affiliated to the British Reflexology Association.

The school was founded by Doreen Bayly who learnt her reflexology techniques and practice from Eunice Ingham; the school continues today under the leadership of Nicola Hall.

Eunice Ingham

Eunice Ingham is regarded as the 'Mother of Modern Reflexology' as she was the first to accurately 'map' the feet to show the origin of each loop and the organs and systems contained within each loop.

Doreen Bayly

Doreen Bayly learnt her reflexology techniques and practice from Eunice Ingham.
